hi. if you have tried to send a contact form it may not have worked. i'm checking into it. thanks!
i found out about this grant program through the community college called the student business incubator. i applied for it and, i still can't believe it but, i was awarded the grant. with that money i have bought a trailer. it is an old motorcycle trailer. i figure the overhead will be easier to handle if it is a moving store with no rent and utilities. that maybe i will be able to stay in business longer, get more done.
i came up with the name snake, rabbit, and snail while riding in a car with my friend nathanael back in 2009. he never fails to inspire me. then while brainstorming with more friends, caroline and david, david said 'what about tarot cards?'. something about an animal reading tarot cards. i loved it. so, i asked yet another friend, sarah cavalieri, to design a logo. and she did. and it is probably one of the best logos i have ever seen! my friend liz who was in the what-can-julie-do-with-her-life think tank in new bedford, flew down from new york to paint the logo on the trailer. she works on movie sets up there and is basically a professional sign painter, so it looks great. then my friend/coworker ash painted the inside of the trailer for me. and now, master woodworker jason flack, has built the shelves.
basically, what i'd like to say is thank you to all of my friends who have helped me. and there are more i haven't even mentioned yet. if i didn't mention you here i'm sorry. it's amazing all of the support i have had so far. what would i do without these people?
in 2008 i went to vist some friends in new bedford, mass. i was really trying to think of some way to work for myself. my friend, liz, suggested i open a bookstore. i didn't like the idea of owning a bookstore with every genre, but i started to feel really excited when i realized that it could be a store selling my favorite genre......children's books!
when i got back to asheville i took a business plan writing class. at that point i was still thinking of having a storefront. i was pregnant while taking the class and then after i had the baby i was consumed with other things. haha. so after a couple of years of parenting i came up with the brilliant idea of having a mobile bookstore! not sure if this would actually be feasible i took another class at abtech, and the abstract numbers i came up with in my class suggested it just might be crazy enough to work. so, here we are.
